Info Post
It's time for Bunni's Movie Review.  You are in for a trailer laden treat, I will review Sherlock Holmes, and Avatar in this post.  For those of you in England, where I've been informed that the theatres close for the Christmas Holidays, you will have something to look forward to.  I went to the Christmas Day opening in Chicago, first show, of Sherlock Holmes.  I was surprised how packed the theatre was for a 10:15 am show!  I got a great seat and settled in to be transported to lovely London town at the turn of the Century.  I completely enjoyed this film by Guy Ritchie, it had his usual energy and great fight scenes, but not as frenetic as say, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.  The casting was brilliant, I loved the Villian, Lord Blackwood, played by Mark Strong. Jude Law and Robert Downey were the perfect pair of crime fighting pals, and Rachel McAdams was a feisty heroine.  The atmosphere was very evocative of the time and place.  You could feel the dampness of the rain washed cobblestone streets, the fog, and the hustle and bustle of the streets. The action and adventure and interesting plot were perfect for an escapist romp on a cold winter's day.  Below you can watch the trailer:
"In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country."

You can visit the Official Movie Site Here. Enjoy yourself, I'll see you in London.

The New York Times has a pretty decent Film Review, along with several cool links.
This Christmas weekend was the all time BIGGEST ever for movies. Deadline.com is reporting that it was a record setting time, with Avatar beating out Sherlock
Holmes. This confirms with my theory that in horrid times, people want to forget
their troubles and be entertained, I know I do.

Now on to AVATAR! I saw this 2 1/2 hour ground breaking film when it opened last
Friday. Spring for the 3-D glasses when you go see it, because you'll need
them to enjoy the full effect of the spectacular special effects.  I'm sure you've read lots of reviews and heard a lot about this movie, but all I can say is, don't get caught up in
the "politicizing" of it! I'm sure Cameron has his own liberal "greenie" propaganda.
If that's what you're looking for, you'll find it. However, I think it's a movie,
watch it, suspend belief, and appreciate it for what it is, an exciting trip into a new world with the most visually stunning effects I've ever seen. It was worth every penny of the 300 gajillion bucks and 10 years Cameron spend making it. I loved the forest world of the Navi, especially at night, where everything is glowing & beautiful.
I think you'll enjoy it too.
"In the future, a paraplegic war veteran is brought to the planet Pandora which is inhabited by the Navi. The Navi is a humanoid race with their own language and culture, but the people of Earth find themselves at odds with the Navi."

Here is the Avatar Official Movie Website.

You can see James Cameron talking about the process of creating
Avatar on Charlie Rose. I think Charlie Rose is the best interviewer today,
no matter who he is speaking with. This is from The Daily Beast Dec. 18, 2009.

I hope you enjoyed this little escape from the day to day troubles of the world.
Lord knows there is enough bad news these days to drown us, I am tossing out
a few straws we can clutch and hopefully forget all that for a while.

Now if you want a BIG LAUGH, you've got to hop over to this post by The Big Yin
over at his great blog, Freedom-2-Choose. I had never seen Aussie
Steve Hughes before, and I'm glad I found him...he's hilarious. Steve's not very
PC, and there is a "language alert"
but it wouldn't be very funny without all that, now would it? Nope!
